We're not quite sure how the time has passed so quickly but here we are almost in November again: a time for Bonfire here in Lewes, but also of course our annual participation in the Will Aid scheme. This is when we don't take any fees for these wills and instead donations go to Will Aid, supporting nine different charities. Our appointments get booked up way back in September and November is always a very busy month. Here's hoping Will Aid raises lots of money this year!
John would like to offer heartfelt thanks to the passers-by in Lewes who helped him yesterday after a taxi knocked him off his bike and (luckily) on to the pavement. He was a bit shaken but managed to escape with just a few bruises. Unfortunately, due to the circumstances, he didn't get round to finding out his helpers' names so would just like to take this opportunity to say a big 'thank you'. He was very grateful for your assistance !
Well somehow since the last post we have had Bonfire, Xmas and the New Year ! I don't quite know how that happened except that we've been busy, busy, but I wish everyone a slightly belated Happy New Year and hope that we are all pleasantly surprised by 2017 being a lot better than expected . . here's to peace, good health and prosperity for all.
Although it's a glorious sunny day here today there's also a seasonal chill in the air and October means that we say the mnemonic above to remember to put our clocks back at the end of this month. This year it happens on Sunday October 30th at 2.00 am.
I had thought that 'Fall' was American for Autumn until I googled it and found out that in Tudor times 'Fall' was commonly used here, & then crossed the seas with the Pilgrim Fathers. We stopped using it here until the saying above started to be popular. In Lewes it also means that the Bonfire Boys are out and about selling programmes for Bonfire - of which more later ! They sound like something magical but actually they're extremely sensible and useful. Lasting Powers of Attorney give a trusted friend or relation the legal power to act on your behalf should you need it. We're doing a lot of them at the moment so the word must be getting around ! Have a look at our articles on them for more information.
The glorious sunshine of the last week has disappeared today and it's grey and damp as we put together this month's ad for Viva Lewes. The photos we use are all taken locally by our team and we've put some of our favourite ads in the Gallery so that you can see them.
I'm delighted to say that I've passed my exams and I am now a member of this very worthwhile organisation. Here's a description from their website that sums it all up rather well:
'Solicitors for the Elderly (SFE) is an independent, national organisation of lawyers, such as solicitors, barristers, and legal executives who provide specialist legal advice for older and vulnerable people, their families and carers.' |
